Tall case brass dial clock, 1765-1775.

Mahogany tall-case clock. The hood has an ogee molded broken-scroll pediment terminating in carved rosettes, with a central carved cartouche and two turned urn-and-flame finials on plinths. Applied carved c-scrolls and vines decorate the tympanum. There are free-standing fluted columns at the four corners. The glazed door has blind fretwork on the outer edge, and an astragal top. Waist with dentil and cove moldings at the top, fluted quarter-columns at the front corners, and a case door with a shaped broken-scroll top. Base with cove molding at the top. Base section with fluted quarter-columns at the front corners, an applied base panel with shaped serpentine sides and supported on ogee bracket feet. Composite brass dial with applied chapter ring with roman hour numerals and arabic minute numerals, applied cast decoration in the spandrels, and a moon phase dial in the lunette. Inside the chapter ring there is an applied seconds dial, a calendar aperture and a plaque bearing the inscription "Edwd Duffield Philada." Eight day movement.
